In our recent podcast, Seeds of Hope, my friend Del and I talked about the game Two Truths and a Lie. Have you played it, where you tell two things that are true and one lie about yourself, and hearers must choose which is the lie? We discussed truth on another episode as well.
Pilot asked Jesus, “What is truth?” (John 18:38)
What is your truth, and why do you believe what you believe? Where did you get your proclaimed truth? Is it based on current thinking, opinions and misconceptions resulting from misinformation? Might it be misunderstood from a lie?
Many people today are being swayed by the world’s distortion of truth – one of the latest: there are no real genders. Funny, every baby born since the beginning of time has had either an X or a Y chromosome, resulting in, well, I’ll put it this way: an inny or an outy – an obvious difference. It’s baffling how anyone can dispute this. But it goes on and on.
But at the core of it all is a denial of the Creator and how He made us: male and female (Genesis 5:2).
This passage from Romans 1 describes well what is going on today:
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 WHO EXCHANGED THE TRUTH OF GOD FOR A LIE, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. (emphasis mine)
We really don’t get to decide what real truth is. Society is trying to create their own version of the truth, but our own version, if it’s not based on real truth, is a lie from the pit of hell; and that’s exactly where it leads. The world doesn’t want to face real truth, absolute truth, because they would have to be accountable to it. It requires a response and a responsibility.
Actually, to say there’s no absolute truth is an absolute statement. Do you see the flaws in this kind of thinking?
Warren Wiersbe said, “The evidence is there for all to examine. We can examine it defensively and miss the truth, or we can examine it honestly and humbly and discover the truth, believe and be saved. The religious leaders were so blinded by tradition, position and selfish pride that they could not—and would not—see the truth and receive it.”
Believing what we want to believe doesn’t change the facts. Believing I’m a doctor won’t make me a doctor (and I’m sure no hospital would hire me!) I can identify as a dog all day long, but walking around on all fours will just make me look foolish.
Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found.
Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. Isaiah 59:14
There is only one Truth that doesn’t change with the times; however, it will change your life for the better for all time! But this Truth can only change your life if you accept it.
Pilot asked Jesus what truth is. Jesus is the Truth – the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). And no matter how the world tries to deny it, denying it won’t make it not true. Their version of truth can’t save our souls, and it can’t determine our eternity and where we will spend it. Only the real Truth can do that.
There are a lot of lies being told lately, but there’s only one Truth we all need to hear:
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved (Acts 6:31).
Jesus is the only Truth with real hope for our lives, both now and in eternity.
What the world needs now is Truth, real Truth.
And the Truth will set you free (John 8:31-32) – free from the lies that will sink you.
