What if?

What if God really is the missing link that will keep America from falling apart?  What if our Christianity has been the reason for our blessings (Psalm 33:12)? What if walking away from God and the Bible is to our demise?

What if we returned to our Christian roots?

Some say we shouldn’t say things like “what if” or “if only,” because it comes from fear and regret. But perhaps if we considered “what if” we wouldn’t end up saying “if only.”

So, what if God really is the only one who can save America? And what if that means we need to start taking Him more seriously and submit to Him? Extremists tell us we shouldn’t be so extreme, but maybe God is the extreme we need to embrace, not the extreme of secularism? After all, clearly something is very wrong with how things are going.

What if we really do need to pray and seek God and turn from our wicked ways for God to hear and forgive and heal our land, as it states in 2 Chronicles 7:14?

Considering that Psalm 33:12 says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,” what would happen in America if we tried returning to God, the Bible, and prayer?

‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts. “Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets preached, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds.” ’ But they did not hear nor heed Me,” says the Lord. Zechariah 1:3-4 NKJV

The Bible has example after example of the demise of societies who rejected Him.

What if returning to God is our only hope for America?

So maybe we should be asking “what if?” Let’s let our “what ifs” move us to change what needs to be changed so we won’t end up saying “if only…”

Perhaps the better questions is, what if we don’t?

I invite you to pray this scriptural prayer with me:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come to You and confess that America has fallen far short of Your Glory (Romans 3:23). We have not loved You with all our heart, soul, and mind (Mathew 22:37) as You intended. We have allowed the comforts we’ve been blessed with in our nation to lead us away from You and Your ways. We have allowed sin to grow in our land like a plague (James 1:15). May we seek the blessings of Your kingdom and righteousness (Matthew 6.33).

You are holy and just, and You do not allow sin to go unpunished (2 Corinthians 5:10). But thank You for being patient with us, not wanting anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9). Please forgive us and cleanse us of all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Help us to truly repent – to turn from our wicked ways, to return to You and seek You with all our heart (Jeremiah 29:12-13). Help us to realize the blessing on our country and our lives when we follow You and Your ways (Psalm 33:12).

May each of us pray: Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in Your everlasting way (Psalm 139:23-24).

Please lead America in Your everlasting way!

In Jesus name and for His sake. Amen.
