The Most Important Thing
Greetings, Friends!
It’s a beautiful but busy season. Our schedule and our mind is often full. We can get distracted during the holiday season and neglect the most important thing, when perhaps we need it the most. Sometimes it’s hard to sit still to pray, let alone even to think of what to pray. But it’s the most important thing we can do during Christmas. So, I’ve done it for us and written a prayer for us to take a moment to pray during the busy season. I hope you’ll find it helpful, hopeful, and meaningful.
Let’s pray…
Heavenly Father, thank You for coming to us in Jesus. Thank You for leaving heaven to come to this fallen world in order to save us from the consequences of it. Thank You that You are Wonderful, Counselor, Almighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. [If you have a few moments, ponder what these names mean for you personally.]
Thank you for Your gift of love; for being my light, my peace, my comfort, my strength, my wisdom, my guidance, but especially my salvation–for Your mercy and Your grace.
Oh Lord, help me to remember that You are the most important thing during this season. Help me not to get sidetracked by my to-do list, but to find every opportunity to make You the center of all I do and say.
I pray people will see Your love and light more than ever this Christmas. This world needs You more than ever. Help me to shine Your light as often as I can to those around me. Help my family members [name them] and my friends, neighbors, and/or co-workers [name them] to see Your light and love in me and want what they see. May they ask me about it so I will have an opportunity to tell them about the hope that is in me. And Lord, give me the words when they do ask. Help me to remember I don’t need to know everything or have any special, fancy words; I only need to tell what You have done for me, and that You came for them as well.
Lord, I pray for our nation to find You once again, for us to be one nation under God again. That is what we need most this Christmas–revival in our land. Oh Lord, more than any Christmas gift we can give, our children need us to make our homes and America godly again. They need You. Families need You. Lord, I pray for Your peace as families gather during Christmas. I pray for my family as we gather [anything in particular you’d like to pray about?]. I pray for those who are hurting this Christmas [anyone in particular you can pray for?]; please give them a special touch from You, that they may feel Your love, Your peace, Your presence.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder each year at Christmas of Your love and Your desire to be “God with us.” May we let You ‘inn’ to our heart and life more each day.
I pray this in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the reason for the season. Amen.
May we remember Jesus every moment and that prayer is the most important thing we can do, for ourselves and for others, during this season. Let’s continue to stay close to Him through prayer throughout the season. I invite you to use this prayer often and to share it with others.
Merry Christmas to all of you, and God bless!
Penny
