Remember

Last week I had the honor of guest blogging for Karen Clarkson Friday (Karen ‘Girl’ Friday, @FridayKaren). The blog summarized my book, Pursuing Prayer, by giving a short review of each chapter, or each letter of the prayer acrostic in the book. One of those letters is R for “Remember His Deeds,” which I think goes well with Thanksgiving coming up. Here is a short excerpt from the blog:

We see in the Old Testament what happened when the Israelites forgot God and all He had done for them. Psalm 106 recounts much of their forgetfulness and rebellion, even though they had been warned, “…beware, lest you forget the LORD…” and “…you shall remember well what the LORD your God did…” (Deuteronomy 6:12, 7:18) https://www.karengirlfriday.com/six-steps-to-effective-prayer

In addition, Psalm 110:4 tells us, “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Another instruction we see repeatedly in the Bible is thankfulness. One popular and often-favorite verse is Philippians 4:6, which tells us not to be anxious, but to pray about everything “with thanksgiving.” First Thessalonians 5:18 tells us to be thankful in everything, and Ephesians 5:20, Give thanks always. What does thankfulness have to do with remembering? If we don’t remember, how can we be thankful, and if we’re not thankful, how can we worship Him?

Remembering generates thankfulness and thankfulness produces worship.

Jesus began the Lord’s Prayer with worship, “Hallowed be Thy name.” Worship reminds us who God is and all He has done for us. Especially at Thanksgiving, we remember these things. But Karen has a great new blog this week about “ThanksLiving.” I hope you’ll check it out and be blessed by it. Her acronym for THANKSGIVING is a must-see! https://www.karengirlfriday.com/a-life-of-sincere-thanksgiving-by-thanksliving

Happy Thanksgiving – remembering on this day all God has done for us. And Happy ThanksLiving – remembering every day all God has done for us. Because “Hallowed be Thy Name.”

Let us remember this every time we pray, not just in the Lord’s Prayer, and not just on Thanksgiving.

Thankful for you, Penny
