I am passionate about prayer. I’ve prayed some pretty big prayers and seen God do miraculous things, so I know prayer works. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I’ve had some so-called unanswered prayers that have rocked my faith. And I’ve struggled to find the time and will to do it, like a lot of us. But God always shows Himself faithful when we’re faithful, and He knows better than we do what is best.
Over the past few years. I’ve taught, spoken and written about an acrostic for prayer the Lord laid on my heart, which is based on the elements of prayer Jesus taught in the Lord’s Prayer. It became articles in Blessed Living Women’s E-Magazine (www.blwemag.com
), and then I was encouraged to write it as a Bible Study, which I am in the process of doing.
All that to say – you can imagine how my heart melted when I was visiting my nearly eight-year-old grand daughter Ava, and she
informed me she prays five things when she goes to bed: for thankfulness, forgiveness, the sick, the poor, and love.
Oh my goodness, she gets it!
Check! Another prayer answered.
What an example and inspiration an eight year old can be.

Then, on my most recent visit, she was looking through her Bible and came across a verse she liked and said, “Grammy, I found a verse I want to memorize.” It was Psalm 139:13-14:
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made…
I encouraged her to write it on a sticky note and place it where she would see it often.
Babes. Childlike faith. We all need a good dose of it once in a while, don’t we?
What are you doing to not only consistently be in the Word,
but to memorize it?
We need God and His Word more than ever before. And there is certainly a lot to pray for these days when you look at the state of our country and our world. I hope you’ll join me in praying continually for them, especially our upcoming election.
