Let’s Pray for America!

For the National Day of Prayer this week, let’s just pray for America. Here’s a scriptural prayer we can pray today and any day. It’s so vital that we keep praying. Remember, it won’t be our leaders who will save America (although they need our prayers too)–it will be the God of Heaven’s Armies, Creator and Redeemer, who said:

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV

Father God, You are Creator and Savior (Hebrews 1:3-4). You have been our salvation, our strength, and our refuge (Psalm 62:7)—the cornerstone of our nation (Ephesians 2:20).

But, like many before us, we in America have strayed and lost our way. We have forgotten You and rebelled, and we have been brought low from our iniquities. Nevertheless, regard our affliction and hear our cry (Psalm 106:13, 40, 43).

Lord, help our nation to turn back to You and Your ways (Jeremiah 18:11)!

Forgive us for when we’ve rebelled against Your Truth (Isaiah 30:2-3), when we haven’t paid attention to Your instructions for our lives (Isaiah 30:9) or refused to listen (Isaiah 30:9-11). Forgive us when we’ve listened to the wrong voices (Psalm 1:1). Forgive us for not knowing Your truth enough to recognize the right voices; for not always wanting to hear what is right and true (Isaiah 30:10-11, 2 Timothy 4:3-4); forgive us when we’ve sought voices to tell us what we want to hear, rather than what we need to hear.

We ask for Your truth to set us free (John 8:31-32) from all the lies of the enemy. Let all false witnesses be caught and dealt with (Proverbs 19:9); let their crooked ways be found out (Proverbs 10:9). What our enemies mean for evil, turn it for our good (Genesis 50:20).

Do not let us be led by the temptations of the world any longer (Matthew 6:13). We pray for our children, and our children’s children, that You would deliver them from the evil one (Matthew 6:13). Oh Lord, help parents and those who lead our children, to teach Your ways diligently to them (Deuteronomy 6:7). Please rescue them and redeem them into Your kingdom (Colossians 1:13-13).

Will you not revive us again, that we may rejoice in You? (Psalm 85:6) Help us to repent and return to You, that our sins may be wiped away and times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord in our land (Acts 3:19). Help us, Lord God, and save us according to Your mercy (Psalm 109:26). Forgive us and cleanse us from all our unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

Lord, we pray for revival in our land! (Psalm 85:6) Restore our soul, lead us in the paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake (Psalm 23:3). Without You, America is nothing (John 15:5).

Turn America again to Yourself, O God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down on us. Only then will be we be saved (Psalm 80:7). Do not deliver us into the hand of our oppressors, but according to Your great compassion, deliver us (Nehemiah 9:27). Lord, our hope is in You (Psalm 39:7). We ask for You to guide our leadership in righteousness so we would be able to lead lives of peace and godliness (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Give the command to save us and deliver us out of the hand of the unrighteous (Psalm 71:3-4).

Thank You that You are rich in mercy and love (Ephesians 2:4). Thank you for Your love, Your patience, Your great mercy and Your amazing grace, and thank You that You are the God of all hope (Romans 15:13).

It’s in Your Mighty name we pray for America. Amen.
