Let’s Pray for America! (Part 1 of 4)
Note: This is not a political post, but a praying post.
Last week I wrote about Hurricane Matthew. It seems there’s been another hurricane this week, and it’s lasted all week. I must say I’m weary of it, aren’t you?
People are endlessly discussing and even arguing about the candidates on social media. As my friend said recently, “Those relationships will be there long after this election is over.”
I pray in the coming weeks we can get past our feelings and focus on the dire issues facing our nation. No one thinks rationally when they’re emotional.
I hope this post will calm us down and get us all praying even more than we are about the election. Would you pray some scriptures with me for our country?
The Bible says the word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12) and will not return void but will accomplish its intended purpose (Isaiah 55:11).
So, let’s pray these verses for America…
Psalm 33:12, 20-22 –
Lord, thank you that you bless the nation whose God is the Lord,
the people whom you have chosen as your heritage!
the people whom you have chosen as your heritage!
Our soul waits for you Lord;
You are our help and our shield.
For our heart is glad in you,
because we trust in your holy name.
Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us,
even as we hope in you.
You are our help and our shield.
For our heart is glad in you,
because we trust in your holy name.
Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us,
even as we hope in you.
Psalm 35:1-9 –
Contend, Lord, with those who contend with the USA;
fight against those who fight against us.
Take up shield and armor;
arise and come to our aid.
Brandish spear and javelin
against those who pursue us.
Lord, you are our salvation.
fight against those who fight against us.
Take up shield and armor;
arise and come to our aid.
Brandish spear and javelin
against those who pursue us.
Lord, you are our salvation.
May those who seek our lives and our country
be disgraced and put to shame;
may those who plot our ruin
be turned back in dismay.
May they be like chaff before the wind,
with the angel of the Lord driving them away;
may their path be dark and slippery,
with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.
be disgraced and put to shame;
may those who plot our ruin
be turned back in dismay.
May they be like chaff before the wind,
with the angel of the Lord driving them away;
may their path be dark and slippery,
with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.
Since they hid their net for us without cause
and without cause dug a pit for us,
may ruin overtake them by surprise—
may the net they hid entangle them,
may they fall into the pit, to their ruin.
Then we will rejoice in the Lord
and delight in his salvation.
and without cause dug a pit for us,
may ruin overtake them by surprise—
may the net they hid entangle them,
may they fall into the pit, to their ruin.
Then we will rejoice in the Lord
and delight in his salvation.
Psalm 40:11-16 –
Do not withhold your mercy from us, Lord;
may your love and faithfulness always protect the USA.
For troubles without number surround us;
our sins have overtaken us, and we cannot see.
They are more than the hairs of our heads,
and our heart fails within us.
Be pleased to save us, Lord;
come quickly, Lord, to help us.
may your love and faithfulness always protect the USA.
For troubles without number surround us;
our sins have overtaken us, and we cannot see.
They are more than the hairs of our heads,
and our heart fails within us.
Be pleased to save us, Lord;
come quickly, Lord, to help us.
May all who want to take our country
be put to shame and confusion;
may all who desire our ruin
be turned back in disgrace.
May those who say, “Aha! Aha!”
be appalled at their own shame.
But may all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who long for your saving help always say,
“The Lord is great!”
be put to shame and confusion;
may all who desire our ruin
be turned back in disgrace.
May those who say, “Aha! Aha!”
be appalled at their own shame.
But may all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who long for your saving help always say,
“The Lord is great!”
Daniel 2:21 –
God it is you who changes times and seasons; You set up kings and depose them. You give wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.
Lord, please open our eyes, our hearts and minds, and give us wisdom and discernment for whom we should vote. Lord, have mercy on us with the leader you set up for us. In Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
I invite you to join me next Saturday for more scriptures to pray for our country.
