God Bless the USA

Happy Independence Day, Friends!

As I listened to the song, “God Bless the USA,” the other day (which always brings tears to my eyes), these words came to me. It is my hope it stirs us up to more prayer for America. And I’d love to have you pray with me at the end.

Here goes…

 

God Bless the USA, 2024 Version:

 

If tomorrow all the things were gone

You worked for all your life

And they won’t let you start again

Not your children nor your wife

Better thank your lucky stars

To have lived right here today

When the flag still stood for freedom

Cause it’s almost gone away!

 

Were we proud to be an American

While we knew we were still free?

Did we forget the men who died

For rights for you and me?

Will we gladly kneel down and pray anew

to defend Her still today?

Let there be no doubt we love this land

God bless the USA!

 

The pilgrims sailed from Plymouth

For their faith and to be free

Across the raging waters

from sea to shining sea

To the bay in Massachusetts

for the sake of Calvary

There was faith in every American heart

But it’s time we kneel and pray!

 

God, I’m thankful to be an American

Where you’ve made me blessed and free

Let me not forget the men who died

Who gave that right to me

And I’ll gladly kneel down and pray to You

To defend Her still today

May there be no doubt I love this land

God bless the USA!

 

Are we thankful to be Americans?

How will we remain free?

We all must continue to fight

For rights for you and me

And to gladly kneel down and pray anew

to defend Her still today

Freedom prayer:

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the United States of America, for our freedoms that You have abundantly blessed us with. We thank You for the blessing this nation has been to us and those around the world (Matthew 25:35-40).  Let us not forget those who afforded us those freedoms with their very lives (John 15:13). May we not use those freedoms as an opportunity for sin (Galatians 5:13). 

Lord, the enemy continues to seek to destroy our freedoms. In our distress we call on You, Lord, to continue to set us free (Psalm118:5). Plead our cause with those who strive with us (Psalm 35:1). Continue to deliver us from our enemies that we might serve You without fear (Luke 1:74).

For we know our greatest freedom is in You. The blood of our soldiers gave us national freedom, but Your blood shed for us afforded us spiritual freedom (Hebrews 9:22), freedom from sin and death (Romans 8:2). For when we are in bondage to sin, our faith in You sets us free (Galatians 3:22). But America has backslid from the faith we once had; we pray our nation will turn back to You and You would be merciful (Jeremiah 3:12). We pray Americans will seek Your ways and walk in Your freedom once again (Psalm 119:45). May Your Truth set us free from all the lies of the enemy (John 8:32). And if the Son has set us free, we will be truly free (John 8:36)!

For freedom in Jesus’ name. Amen.

 

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17). That’s why a nation is blessed whose God is the Lord (Psalm 33:12)!

    A great post, Penny, and encouragement for the importance of praying for America. If there is any hope for us at all, it will be through prayer in the will of God Almighty.

    Thanks, Kathy. Yes, our only hope is in Him! Jesus said, “Always pray, and don’t lose heart” (Luke 18:1).
