Don’t Stop Now

The election is finally over. I don’t know about you, but I’m emotionally exhausted. We prayed hard, and some got what they prayed for, some did not. That’s why I write today, to encourage you, whichever you are. Don’t stop trusting God now!

As my son-in-law reminded me:

Put not your trust in princes,
in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.
 When his breath departs, he returns to the earth;
on that very day his plans perish.

Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord his God,
who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them…  Psalm 146:3-6 ESV

The election may be over, but don’t stop praying for America now. I assure you when we trust God, asking for His peace and His wisdom, not leaning on own understanding, He will give us His peace, no matter who sits in the oval office. Don’t forget about Peter, who sunk only when he took His eyes of Jesus. And let’s remember that our Savior is not on Air Force One.

So, let’s not stop praying for America now. There are so many challenges facing our country no matter who the president is, and they will need our prayers. In some ways, the work of praying starts now.

We wanted to be encouraging on our podcast, Seeds of Hope, this week, especially for those who are feeling let down. I’ve linked the show below if you’d like to listen and be encouraged.

Finally, don’t stop loving each other now. The world is watching us and how we interact with each other as believers. Let’s show Jesus by how we treat each other with love and respect. After all, Jesus said, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” How will the world ever know His love if all they see is Christians debating each other and being critical of each other’s political choices? Let’s just pray for each other, and let’s show the world how to love–Jesus style!

Would you pray with me right now? Let’s pray for each other, our leaders, and, though we’re all passionate about what we feel and think, let’s ask God for His revelation of truth.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are still in control no matter who is in the White House. You are Almighty God, creator, sovereign, mighty, yet full of mercy and love. We thank You for Your mercy and pray You will continue to “shed Your grace on thee” in America. Help us not to fear but to put our confidence and trust in You alone to make things right in our nation.

Lord, we pray for each other, our brothers and sisters in Christ and of this nation. Lord, help us to love each other! Open our eyes to Your will and Your truth. None of us have all the answers, so help us to be patient with one another and just love each other as fellow flawed citizens. Help us to overcome evil with good. Lord, help us to extend the same mercy to each other as You have freely given to us. Please help us to unify as we all want the best for our country, even if we don’t agree on how it should be done.

Oh Lord, help us also to extend mercy to our leaders, even the ones we don’t agree with. You have put them in office, and so our trust will be in You, not them. Let us not lean on our own understanding, but to trust in You to direct our nation’s path, and trust You to guide and direct our leaders’ paths. We do want what’s best for our nation, so we continue to pray for our leaders. For to pray for our leaders is to pray for America, our families, each other, and even ourselves.

Lord, You know the challenges and obstacles America faces, but nothing is too difficult for You. We ask You to not allow any weapon formed against America to prosper. We ask You to bind the enemy’s schemes and cause them to be defeated. Protect this great nation against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Whatever is planned for evil, turn it for America’s good, that we may continue to be a shining light to the world.

We ask these things in the powerful name of Your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.

Thanks for praying with me. Let’s “pray without ceasing.” God bless you, and God bless America!
