A Labor Day Prayer

It’s another Labor Day weekend to celebrate the American worker. Labor Day also signals the end of summer with, ironically, an extra day off from our labor. But let’s not take a day off from prayer, even though it can sometimes feel laborious and tedious. Perhaps you’ve felt this way as I have at times. But we are told to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). That means we’re not supposed to take a vacation from it. Instead, let’s take a praycation with the Labor Day Prayer below.

As Christ followers, we are to be keepers of the light, to keep the oil in our lamps burning. So when the culture goes dark, we are the ones to shine light in the darkness. We are the ones to proclaim truth in the midst of falsehoods. We are the ones to spread love when others spread hate. Do we take days off from these things? By no means.

We are also the ones to keep praying, to keep calling on God’s power to work in our nation and in our lives. If prayer releases God’s power, then praying is connecting to the power source. So, what if we unplug?

We don’t always understand what happens when we pray, but I think prayer is more vital than we realize. And we all know our nation needs prayer more than ever. So let’s not take a vacation from it. We must not give the devil a foothold. If we do not pray, who will?

So, will you pray this Labor Day scriptural prayer for America with me this weekend?

Lord, we take time on this day off to pray to You. We come to Your throne of grace to find mercy and grace to help in this time of need in our country (Hebrews 4:16). Hear our prayers, O Lord, and answer us quickly (Psalm 102:1-2).

We seek to abide in You through prayer because without You, our nation can do nothing (John 15:5). You are near to all who call upon You in truth (Psalm 145:18). You are Truth (John 14:6). So we draw near to You now and ask You to cleanse our hands and purify our hearts, that we would not have divided hearts (James 4:8). For You have promised that if we would humbly pray and seek You and confess our sins against You, that You will hear our prayers and forgive our sins and heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14).

You have instructed us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17), to pray always (Ephesians 6:18), and to be devoted to prayer (Romans 12:12). Let us not lose heart (Luke 18:1)! Let us not be people who do not have because we have not asked (James 4:2). Help us to be people You will hear because we have not cherished our sin more than we cherish You (Psalm 66:18). It is the prayer of the righteous that is powerful and effective (James 5:16). How else can we experience the power and authority You have for us—the authority to tread on satan and his demons, all the power of the enemy, so that nothing can harm us (Luke 10:19; Ephesians 6:12)?

Thank You for hearing our prayer and shedding Your amazing “grace upon grace” on us once again (John 1:16). May we look at our nation and others and be utterly amazed at the unbelievable things You will do in our own day (Habakkuk 1:5)–all because we prayed without ceasing.

In Jesus’ powerful name we pray. Amen.

Have a great and safe holiday weekend! Thanks for spending a few moments of it to pray with me. I hope you’ll come back next time so we can pray together again. You can subscribe here so you won’t miss. And please share this so more people can pray with us for our nation. Miracles happen when we pray!

God bless you, and God bless America!

Hugs,

Penny
